“Slid down, still got the QB, pocketed a starter for the trouble”
Jasson played draft-day billiards and mostly won. Sitting at 1.04 with QB need, he sold the pick to a Tyson-hungry Jonny for pick 1.09 plus Kyle Monangai, a real NFL starter, then still landed Ty Simpson, the exact Superflex QB asset he wanted, five picks later. That is a free running back for waiting twenty minutes. Simpson behind Stafford in LA is the classic apprentice setup and he was the biggest riser of the spring (PFF 15 to 7 since April). Chris Brazzell at 2.04 is a Carolina X with genuine size-speed, David Njoku at 3.04 patches the league's thinnest TE room with a proven target hog, and Ja'Kobi Lane at 4.04 was a value at least one contender wanted a round later. Trevor Etienne, Jam Miller, and Bagent close it out as darts. The roster's spine (Caleb 24, Jefferson 27, Lawrence 26, Garrett Wilson 25) is quietly the youngest QB-WR core outside of Rajib's.
THE HAUL
Simpson sits a year behind Stafford by design. In SF, QBs with a 2027 starting runway appreciate like beachfront property.
Brazzell has legit X traits and Carolina targets to inherit. Bryce Young stigma is the discount.
Njoku catches 80 balls for whoever the Chargers field. Bridge TE, real points.
Lane was on rival boards a full round later. Baltimore red-zone specialist profile.
Etienne the younger, Carolina backfield dart. Fine.
Jam Miller is a Patriots special-teamer until he is suddenly not. Fifth-round appropriate.
Bagent is emergency Superflex insurance who also backs up Caleb in real life. Cute synergy.
The 1.04 to 1.09 slide itself. Monangai for free while still getting Simpson is the kind of move that wins drafts without a single flashy pick.
Njoku at 3.04 is a 29-year-old TE on a rebuilder-adjacent roster. Useful now, worthless to the 2028 version of this team.
3-YEAR OUTLOOK
Fringe contender rising, RB is the taxThe 8-6 zone. Caleb-Lawrence is a sneaky-strong SF pairing, Jefferson and Wilson are matchup-proof, but the RB room (Hubbard 27, Monangai, Dowdle 28) is volume without ceiling. They will lose two shootouts to teams with real backfields.
Simpson's year one as a starter (or his peak trade value if Stafford lingers) coincides with Sampson and Braelon Allen maturing. If either second-year back pops, this is a top-four roster. Full pick sheet, zero dead money.
Caleb 26, Simpson 25, Jefferson 29, Wilson 27, Brazzell 24. The QB depth chart alone wins the format. Whether this is a champion depends entirely on one RB hit between now and then, and they have six darts in the air.
STASH WATCH
Dylan Sampson • 21-year-old Cleveland RB with receiving chops. The 2027 breakout name nobody is watching.
Chris Brazzell • Carolina X targets are there for the taking. WR3 by December is live.
Braelon Allen • 22 with a between-the-tackles role whenever Hall exits. Jets committee resolves in his favor eventually.
Ty Simpson • Not a stash, a savings bond. 2027 QB1 runway in LA or the most tradeable QB asset in the league at next year's draft.
